(32 products)Gainsborough Door Handles & Locks — Australia's Trusted Hardware Brand for Over 50 Years
When Australians think of door hardware, they think of Gainsborough. For more than 50 years, Gainsborough has been the most recognised and widely installed door hardware brand in the country — trusted by homeowners, volume builders, renovation specialists and locksmiths alike. From the front door to the linen press, Gainsborough's range covers every door in the home, with collections spanning designer lever handles, smart electronic locks, the iconic Trilock 3-in-1 system, and the builder-grade TradePro range — all developed and tested in Australia for Australian conditions.
Gainsborough is part of Allegion — a global security company operating in over 130 countries with brands including Schlage, CISA and Von Duprin. That global backing means every Gainsborough product is engineered to the highest international security standards, with the design and testing done specifically for Australian doors, door frames and climate conditions. As a licensed locksmith business, we stock the full Gainsborough range and our qualified locksmiths can advise on selection, installation, keying and smart lock setup. The Gainsborough Collections — Which One Is Right for You?
Avant™ — Premium Designer Levers with Award-Winning QuickFix™
The Avant collection is Gainsborough's flagship premium range and the one that changed how door hardware is installed in Australia. Three lever designs — Alba (straight, slimline profile with softened rounded edges), Rivera (ergonomic finger cut-out for unparalleled everyday comfort) and Sierra (tapered front profile with a wide comfortable surface and contemporary bespoke tone) — across five premium finishes: Bright Chrome, Brushed Satin Chrome, Matt Black, Satin Brass and Satin Graphite.
What makes Avant genuinely different is the patented QuickFix™ technology, winner of the 2019 Australian Good Design Award. Traditional door handle installation requires screws, spindles, backplates and significant time. QuickFix eliminates loose parts — the handle clips into position, twists and secures in under 30 seconds after the latch is fitted. No screw cutting required. For builders, it saves significant time across an entire project. For homeowners replacing hardware, it means a clean installation without tools or frustration.
Every Avant lever is backed by a 15-year mechanical warranty — the strongest in the Gainsborough residential range. Available in passage, privacy and dummy functions.
Neue™ — Modern Sophistication, Angular Design
The Neue range (pronounced "noy-er") takes a more angular, architectural approach — geometric lever profiles on round or square roses that suit contemporary and transitional homes where clean lines and strong form are the design priority. Available in Matt Black, Satin Chrome, Bright Chrome and Satin Brass, Neue is the range that pairs beautifully with matte black tapware, concrete benchtops and large format tiles in modern Australian interiors. Available in passage, privacy and dummy functions for consistent styling from front door to bathroom.
Choice™ — Timeless, Reliable, Everyday
The Choice range is Gainsborough's classic, value-focused lever collection — clean, functional profiles on 63mm round roses in Bright Chrome and Satin Chrome. Suits rental properties, investment renovations, project homes and any application where reliable, good-looking hardware at a sensible price is the priority. Available in passage, privacy and dummy functions across all standard Australian door preparations.
TradePro™ — The Builder's Choice, Project-Keyed
TradePro is Gainsborough's dedicated trade and volume builder range — developed specifically for residential new builds where consistency, speed and keying convenience are paramount. Available in Satin Chrome, Bright Chrome and Matt Black, TradePro covers the complete build: entrance locksets (round and long plate), internal passage and privacy levers and knobs, and dedicated deadbolts.
The defining feature of TradePro is its compatibility with the Gainsborough GR9 Keying System — all entrance sets can be project keyed, meaning every front and back door on a development can be keyed to a single key, or master keyed across a multi-unit project. For volume builders and property developers, this eliminates the complexity and cost of managing multiple key profiles across a project. TradePro is backed by a 7-year mechanical warranty and 2-year tarnish warranty.
Gainsborough Freestyle™ Electronic Trilock — Smart Lock, Signature Style
The Freestyle Electronic Trilock is Gainsborough's premium smart lock — and it is the only smart lock in Australia that combines a full designer lever aesthetic with the proven Trilock 3-in-1 security platform. Available in Matt Black and Brushed Satin Chrome, the Freestyle looks like a premium architectural lever handle from the outside, with all the smart technology concealed behind a stylish slide cover that hides the backlit keypad.
It operates via keypad PIN, key override, or the Gainsborough Freestyle app (iOS and Android). With Wi-Fi built in (no hub or adapter required), the lock can be monitored and controlled from anywhere in the world. Up to 20 user codes can be managed through the app — unrestricted access for family, time-limited codes for cleaners or tradespeople, temporary codes for guests. Compatible with Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Apple Home and SmartThings via Matter over Thread — the new universal smart home standard. Battery-operated (4× AA, up to 12 months) with a 9V external emergency power panel. Backed by a 5-year tarnish warranty, 10-year mechanical warranty and 2-year electronic warranty.
The Gainsborough Trilock — Australia's Most Trusted Front Door Lock
Before smart locks, before QuickFix, before any of the designer collections — there was the Trilock. Gainsborough's Trilock is the most installed front door lock system in Australia, and for good reason: it is the only residential lock that performs three functions in one body, eliminating the need for separate deadbolts and passage sets on the same door.
The three functions are: Passage mode — unlocked and unsnibbed, the door operates freely as a standard passage set for daytime use. Privacy (snib) mode — pressing the interior button locks the door from outside while allowing safe egress without a key from inside. Deadlock mode — a key-operated double cylinder deadbolt with a sturdy 20mm throw fully deadlocks the door for maximum security when the home is unoccupied. Single cylinder version uses an inside turn-button instead of a second key.
The Trilock body fits the standard Australian 54mm bore hole and replaces most existing keylocks without additional door preparation. The solid brass double 5-pin Euro profile cylinder can be keyed alike to other Gainsborough products — one key for the front door, back door and deadbolt. Available across multiple lever styles and finishes from classic to contemporary, and the Freestyle electronic version adds smart lock functionality to the same proven Trilock platform.
Gainsborough Finishes — Full Range Guide
Matt Black — The most popular finish in the current range. Bold and graphic, Matt Black bridges traditional and modern styles effortlessly. Suits contemporary Australian homes, Hamptons renovations, Japandi interiors and any space where strong contrasts and clean lines are the design language. Available across Avant, Neue, TradePro and Freestyle.
Satin Brass — Understated warm gold. Gainsborough's answer to the return of brass in contemporary Australian interiors — neither the full gloss of polished brass nor the weight of antique brass, Satin Brass is the refined, modern interpretation that works in Hamptons, modern Australian and transitional homes. Available in Avant and Neue.
Brushed Satin Chrome — Soft metallic silver with a subtle lustre. The most versatile silver-family finish in the range — edgy but never grandiose, pairs with warm timber textures and neutral palettes. Available across Avant, Neue and Freestyle.
Bright Chrome — Mirror-like reflective silver. The classic contemporary finish, ideal for modern, retro and Art Deco applications. Available across Choice, TradePro and selected Neue styles.
Satin Graphite — A cool, dark grey-silver — warmer than black, cooler than chrome. A welcome finish for homes that want depth and distinction without the commitment of matte black. Available in Avant.
Aged Brushed Copper — A warm reddish-brown with a lived-in, artisanal quality. Gainsborough's nod to the growing demand for copper-toned hardware in eclectic, organic and earthy interiors. Available in selected Neue styles.
Gainsborough Hardware for Every Home Style
Contemporary & Modern Australian — Matt Black or Satin Graphite Avant levers (Sierra or Alba profile). Clean, slimline, minimal. Pairs with matte black tapware, concrete surfaces and large format tiles.
Hamptons — Satin Brass Avant or Neue Angular lever. Warm, refined, understated. Pairs beautifully with white-painted walls, shaker joinery and coastal textures. For hardware that looks expensive without being ornate.
Japandi / Scandi-Minimal — Matt Black or Brushed Satin Chrome Sierra or Rivera (Avant). The ergonomic lever profiles of the Avant range are specifically recommended for Japandi applications — they prioritise tactile function alongside clean aesthetics.
Volume Build & Investment Properties — TradePro Bela or Adel in Satin Chrome. Reliable, well-designed, backed by Gainsborough's warranty, and project-keyed through the GR9 system. The go-to specification for builders managing hundreds of doors across a development.
Smart Home & Technology-Led — Freestyle Electronic Trilock in Matt Black or Brushed Satin Chrome. The only premium-looking smart lock that matches an architectural lever aesthetic while delivering Matter-compatible smart home integration, keypad access, and Gainsborough's proven Trilock security platform.
Frequently Asked Questions — Gainsborough Hardware
What is Gainsborough Hardware?
Gainsborough is one of Australia's most recognised door hardware brands, with over 50 years of history developing and manufacturing door handles and locks specifically for Australian homes. The brand is part of Allegion — a global security company — and all Gainsborough products are developed and tested in Australia. The range covers designer lever sets (Avant, Neue, Choice), the iconic Trilock 3-in-1 front door system, smart electronic locks (Freestyle Trilock), and the builder-grade TradePro range.
What is the Gainsborough Trilock and how does it work?
The Gainsborough Trilock is Australia's most installed front door lock system. It performs three functions in one body: Passage mode (door opens freely, no key needed), Privacy/snib mode (door locks from outside but opens freely from inside without a key — for security when home), and Deadlock mode (full double cylinder deadbolt with 20mm throw, key required on both sides — for maximum security when unoccupied). It fits the standard Australian 54mm bore hole and replaces most existing keylocks without additional door preparation.
What is Gainsborough QuickFix™ technology?
QuickFix is Gainsborough's patented lever installation system, winner of the 2019 Australian Good Design Award. Instead of the traditional process involving loose screws, spindles and backplates, QuickFix levers click into position and secure by twisting — installation in under 30 seconds after the latch is fitted, with no screw cutting required. It dramatically reduces installation time for builders across multi-door projects and makes DIY handle replacement straightforward for homeowners.
What is the warranty on Gainsborough products?
Warranty varies by range. Avant: 15-year mechanical warranty. TradePro: 7-year mechanical, 2-year tarnish. Freestyle Electronic Trilock: 5-year tarnish, 10-year mechanical, 2-year electronic. These are among the strongest hardware warranties available for residential products in Australia and reflect the engineering standards behind the brand.
Does the Gainsborough Freestyle smart lock work with Google Home and Apple Home?
Yes. The Gainsborough Freestyle Smart Wi-Fi Trilock is compatible with Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Apple Home and SmartThings via Matter over Thread — the universal smart home connectivity standard. It connects directly via built-in Wi-Fi without needing a separate hub or bridge. The Gainsborough Freestyle app (iOS and Android) allows full remote management of up to 20 user codes, real-time lock status, activity log and notifications.
Can Gainsborough locks be keyed alike?
Yes. Gainsborough's Euro profile cylinder (used in Trilock, entrance sets and deadbolts) can be keyed alike so all external doors on a property operate on the same key. TradePro entrance sets use the GR9 profile and can be project keyed across an entire residential development for builder convenience. Our locksmith team can arrange keyed alike or master key setups — contact us for a quote.
What is the difference between the Avant, Neue and Choice ranges?
Avant is Gainsborough's premium designer range — five finishes, three lever profiles, QuickFix technology, 15-year warranty, and the most on-trend designs in the catalogue. Neue is the architectural angular range — geometric profiles in a more contemporary style, suited to modern interiors where strong lines are the design language. Choice is the clean, classic value range — reliable profiles in chrome finishes on standard round roses, suited to investment properties and project homes. All three cover passage, privacy and dummy functions.
What is TradePro and is it suitable for residential use?
Yes — TradePro is designed specifically for residential new builds. It is Gainsborough's builder-grade range: complete coverage from entrance to bedroom to bathroom to wardrobe, project-keyable via the GR9 system, in three on-trend finishes. It is the most commonly specified Gainsborough range by volume builders across Australia and is entirely appropriate for both investment and owner-occupier residential projects. It does not match the premium finish or feature depth of the Avant range but it is well-priced, reliable and backed by warranty.
What backset do Gainsborough levers use?
Most Gainsborough levers use a standard 54mm bore hole preparation, which is the standard for Australian residential doors. The Freestyle Trilock suits doors 35–45mm thick with a 60mm backset. If you are replacing existing hardware, a Gainsborough Trilock or lever set will fit most existing Australian door preparations without additional cutting. Contact our team with a photo of your existing door and handle if you are unsure about compatibility.
What door handle suits a Hamptons home?
For Hamptons homes, Gainsborough's Satin Brass finish on the Avant Alba or Neue Angular lever is a strong choice — warm, refined and contemporary without being period-specific. The Choice Florence or Carla in Bright Chrome also suits more traditional Hamptons applications with raised door mouldings. For the front door, the Trilock in Satin Brass or a Freestyle Trilock in Brushed Satin Chrome delivers both security and style.
How do I maintain Gainsborough door handles?
Wipe levers, knobs and roses with a soft damp cloth every two months. A mild soap and water solution can remove dirt, but ensure liquid does not enter cylinders. Avoid abrasive cleaners, chemical solvents and steel wool — these will damage chrome and lacquered finishes. For the Freestyle smart lock, clean the keypad cover with a dry or slightly damp cloth only. Battery replacement is straightforward — 4× AA batteries lasting up to 12 months, with a 9V emergency external power panel if batteries are fully drained.
Can Gainsborough handles be installed on fire-rated doors?
Specific Gainsborough products are tested and rated for fire door applications. If you are installing hardware on a certified fire door, contact our locksmith team — we can confirm which products in the Gainsborough range carry the required fire ratings for your specific door and application. As a licensed locksmith business we understand fire door compliance requirements and can specify appropriately.
