McGrath Locks for Airbnb and Short-Stay Rentals

McGrath is the smart lock of choice for Australian Airbnb hosts, short-stay rental operators and property managers. The combination of 65+ booking platform integrations, automatic time-limited guest codes, remote access from anywhere, and Australian-hosted data makes McGrath the most practical and trustworthy keyless entry solution for properties that turn over guests regularly. No key handovers. No lock boxes. No late-night calls. Just access that works, with a complete audit trail, managed from your phone.

Automatic guest codes
When a booking is confirmed, a time-limited PIN is generated automatically and sent to the guest. It activates at check-in time and expires at check-out — no manual code creation, no key logistics, no lock box.
Remote access from anywhere
Manage locks from your phone anywhere in the world — issue or revoke credentials, view the full access audit trail, check door status, and unlock remotely for cleaners or contractors. One G5 gateway covers all locks on a property.
Cleaner and contractor access
Give your cleaner a code that only activates on scheduled turnover days. Give a tradie a one-off code for a specific window. Every access event is logged — you always know exactly who entered and when.
Multi-property management
The McGrath Locks App manages multiple locks across multiple properties from one dashboard. Centralised access control for investors and managers running Airbnb portfolios across Melbourne, regional Victoria, or anywhere in Australia.
Australian data hosting
McGrath app data — guest codes, access logs, user credentials — is hosted on Australian servers under Australian data jurisdiction. A meaningful distinction from Chinese-origin smart lock brands with offshore infrastructure.
Locksmith setup included
Lockmart's qualified locksmiths install the hardware, configure the app, connect the gateway, and test every access method. For Melbourne properties, we handle the full setup including booking platform integration.

The locks

Most popular

NX1

The most popular McGrath lock in the range and the most-installed smart lever by Australian locksmiths. A 5-in-1 smart lever sitting between the compact Albion and the larger NX5 — a bigger body than the entry-level models (which helps cover extra holes from previous locks) without the bulk of the NX5. Suits timber and aluminium hinged doors 35–54mm thick. Available with adjustable tubular latch or European mortice. Bluetooth standard; add a G-series gateway for full remote access. The go-to choice for most residential and rental property installs.

Residential lever

NX5

A premium residential smart lever with the largest retrofit body in the range — designed to fully cover extra holes from previous lock installations. Five access methods including fingerprint, managed through the McGrath Locks App. Compatible with adjustable tubular latch, 60mm backset tubular, or European mortice. IP65 rated. Preferred for homeowners replacing an existing lock where maximum hole coverage is needed.

Versatile lever

NX6 / NX6W

The NX6 adds a manual privacy bolt to the NX5 feature set — useful for guest rooms, bedrooms and offices where occupants want to independently deadlock from inside. The NX6W builds WiFi directly into the lock, eliminating the need for a gateway entirely. The simplest setup for an Airbnb property where remote access is non-negotiable: one lock, no accessories required. IP65 rated.

Residential and commercial

Hamilton

McGrath's most specified commercial lever. Fire-rated up to 2 hours on E-Core and Firecore doors. DDA-compliant lever for accessibility compliance. IP66 — the highest weather rating in the McGrath range. Compatible with most Australian commercial mortice locks. The Hamilton is the specification for apartment buildings, strata complexes, aged care facilities, and any application where fire door compliance and DDA compliance are mandatory.

Smart deadbolt

Kedron

A premium 5-in-1 smart deadbolt with tempered glass touchscreen and fingerprint reader. Stainless steel anti-saw adjustable bolt. Door sensor included for real-time door position monitoring in the app. IP65. The Kedron adds keyless smart access to a door that already has a decorative lever — no lever replacement needed. Ideal for adding a second locking point or replacing a standalone deadbolt.

Smart deadbolt

Ashgrove

A 4-in-1 smart deadbolt with raised Braille buttons on the tempered glass screen — practical for low-light entry and accessible for users with visual impairment. PIN, RFID, eKey and key override without a fingerprint reader, which positions it at a lower price point than the Kedron. A practical choice for secondary entry points, laundry doors, garages, and back entries where smart access is useful but full feature specification is unnecessary.

Pull handle entrance

Grange Pull Handle

An architectural pull handle with a full 5-in-1 smart access system built in. Where every other McGrath lock replaces a lever or deadbolt, the Grange is the complete statement entrance for contemporary homes, pivot doors, and feature entries — fingerprint, PIN, RFID, app eKey and key override in a premium pull handle form. Available in Lockable (full entrance set) or Dummy (for the inactive leaf of double doors). Extended tailpiece kits available for doors 52–75mm and 75–100mm thick.

Aluminium and slimline

A210 & A231 Slimline

Engineered specifically for narrow stile aluminium doors where standard smart locks will not fit. The A210 has a 43mm wide body for most aluminium hinged doors. The A231 is 31mm — one of the narrowest smart lock bodies available in Australia — and suits both swinging and sliding aluminium doors. Both use a European mortice lock and support all five access methods including fingerprint. IP65 rated.

Key management and connectivity

Key Safe & G5 Gateway

The McGrath Key Safe provides smart access to physical key storage — fingerprint, PIN, RFID, Bluetooth and key override, wall or shackle mounted with a protective weather cover. Useful for property managers and Airbnb hosts managing multiple key sets or properties without a full smart lock on every entry. The G5 Gateway (Type-C USB, dual-band 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi) connects any non-WiFi McGrath lock to remote access. One gateway covers multiple locks within range.

Common questions

The McGrath NX1 is the most popular lock in the McGrath range and the most-installed McGrath smart lever by locksmiths across Australia. It is a 5-in-1 smart lever lock supporting PIN code, fingerprint, RFID card or tag, Bluetooth eKey via the app, and mechanical key override. The NX1 occupies a practical middle ground: a larger body than the compact entry-level Albion and Windsor models — helpful for covering extra holes left by previous locks during retrofit — without the bulk of the NX5. It suits timber and aluminium hinged doors from 35–54mm thick and is available with an adjustable tubular latch or European mortice lock. Bluetooth operation is standard; add a McGrath gateway for full remote access. The combination of versatility, retrofit-friendly sizing, five access methods, and a competitive price point makes it the natural choice for most residential and rental property installations in Australia.
Yes. McGrath Locks integrates with over 65 booking platforms including Airbnb, Booking.com, Vrbo, Expedia, Stayz, Hipcamp, Guesty, Hostaway, Lodgify, Smoobu, Beds24 and many more. When a booking is confirmed on any connected platform, the system automatically generates a time-limited PIN code for the guest, active only during the reservation window. At check-out, the code expires automatically — no manual code management, no key handovers. To use booking platform integrations, the lock must be connected to the McGrath Locks App via a WiFi gateway, or you can use the NX6W which has WiFi built in. Lockmart's team can help configure the full setup for Melbourne and local properties.
For most Airbnb and short-stay rental properties, the NX1 paired with a G5 gateway is the most common setup — it covers the standard timber door, all five access methods, and remote management at a sensible price. The NX6W is the simplest option if you want to avoid a separate gateway, as WiFi is built directly into the lock. For properties with multiple entry points, one G5 gateway can cover several NX1 locks throughout the property. If your property is an apartment building with fire door requirements, the Hamilton is the correct specification. For a contemporary home with an aluminium door, the A210 or A231 may be needed. Contact our team with details of your property and we can recommend the right combination before you order.
Most McGrath locks use Bluetooth as standard, which means the app functions when you are physically nearby but not remotely. For remote access — issuing and revoking codes, viewing the access audit trail, and unlocking from anywhere in the world — most models require a McGrath G-series gateway plugged in at the property. The exception is the NX6W, which has built-in WiFi and needs no gateway. One G5 gateway covers multiple locks within range, so a single device typically manages an entire property. The G5 supports dual-band 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi. Booking platform integrations and remote access both require a gateway or the NX6W.
Yes. The McGrath Locks app is hosted on Australian-based servers under Australian data jurisdiction. User credentials, guest access codes, and activity logs are not stored on offshore infrastructure. This is a meaningful distinction from many smart lock brands in the Australian market whose back-end data is hosted in China or other overseas jurisdictions. McGrath uses advanced encryption and secure authentication, with regular firmware updates pushed through the app. If your internet connection drops, all local access methods — PIN, fingerprint, RFID, Bluetooth eKey and mechanical key — continue to work without internet.
Two safety layers protect against lockout. First, the app and the lock issue a low battery alert when voltage drops below 4.8V — you can still open the door approximately 200 times after this warning, giving plenty of time to replace batteries. For rental properties, this alert reaches you via the app before guests are affected. Second, if batteries are fully drained, every McGrath lock has a USB-C emergency power port on the external panel: hold a charged power bank to the port, the lock powers up temporarily, enter your PIN, and the door opens. Replace batteries from inside after entry. Standard 4 x AA alkaline batteries last approximately 12 months at 10 operations per day.
Standard McGrath lever locks including the NX1, NX5 and NX6 are designed for timber doors and will not fit narrow stile aluminium frames. For aluminium doors, the A210 (43mm body) or A231 (31mm body) are the correct products. Both use a European mortice lock compatible with McGrath's 85 series mortice range and suit hinged aluminium doors. The A231 also suits sliding aluminium doors and is one of the narrowest smart lock bodies available in Australia. If you are unsure of your door type or stile width, send us a photo — our team will confirm the right product before you order.
The McGrath Hamilton is fire-rated up to 2 hours on E-Core and Firecore doors when installed with the McGrath Locks tubular latch in an approved configuration. No other McGrath model carries a fire door certification. For apartment buildings, strata complexes, aged care facilities, and commercial buildings with certified fire doors, the Hamilton is the correct specification. Contact our locksmith team before ordering to confirm the right configuration for your specific door assembly and compliance requirements.
Yes. Lockmart's qualified locksmiths supply, install and configure McGrath locks across Melbourne and surrounding areas. Smart lock installation goes beyond fitting the hardware — we configure the app, enrol access credentials, connect the gateway, test every access method, and walk you through the booking platform integration if needed. For Airbnb and rental property owners, we set up the full system so it works hands-free from day one. Melbourne and local areas only for installation; hardware ships Australia-wide. Contact sales@lockmart.com.au to arrange a quote.
