Description
Description
The Lockwood Velocity Element (L3) is the best-selling lever in the Velocity range — and for good reason. Its square-return profile combines the clean geometry of contemporary design with an ergonomic form that feels exactly right in the hand. If you've walked through a new Australian home in the last decade, there's a strong chance it was fitted with the Element. Designed in Australia, built to Lockwood's 25-year mechanical standard, and available in three finishes — the Element is the benchmark residential lever.
Part of the Lockwood Velocity® Series, the Element shares the range's signature 63mm round rose with concealed fixings, pre-assembled lever set and twist-and-tighten installation system. The result is a lever that installs faster than anything else on the market and looks like it belongs — because it was designed for Australian doors and Australian homes.
Lever profile — Element L3
The Element takes a different approach to the arced designs in the Velocity range. Its lever rises with a gentle angle, then returns at 90 degrees — a square return that gives it a stronger geometric character. This square-return silhouette is the reason the Element suits contemporary homes so well: it reads as intentional and architectural rather than merely functional. It is also highly readable in the hand, with good leverage and a comfortable grip.

Why the Element is the most-specified Velocity lever
Among the six Velocity lever designs, the Element consistently outsells the rest. The square-return geometry is neutral enough to suit almost any interior style — from Hamptons and coastal to contemporary and minimalist — while being distinctive enough to look considered rather than generic. Builders and developers specify it by default; renovators and homeowners choose it because it matches everything. The 47.5mm finger clearance (the largest in the Velocity range) also makes it one of the most comfortable levers to use daily.
Whole-of-home compatibility
The Element L3 is available across Lockwood Nexion Classic, Nexion Vision and Palladium entrance locksets, meaning the same lever shape can run from your front door through every internal door in the home. In the Matt Black finish, it pairs with the Lockwood Paradigm 005 Matt Black deadbolt as a complete coordinated black hardware suite — a combination that's become one of the most popular front-door specifications in Australian new builds.
Installation
The Velocity Element arrives pre-assembled on the 63mm rose. The twist-and-tighten mechanism seats all fixings beneath the removable rose trim — the door face is clean, professional and hardware-free once installed. The rose fits 50mm and 54mm bore holes, covering standard new door preparations and most retrofit scenarios. Professional installation is available through Lockmart's qualified locksmiths across the Mornington Peninsula, Frankston, Braeside and surrounding areas — ask at checkout or call 1300 730 539.
Frequently asked questions
- Why is the Element L3 the most popular Velocity lever?
- The square-return profile is the most versatile design in the range — it suits contemporary, coastal, Hamptons and minimalist interiors equally well. Combined with the largest finger clearance (47.5mm) of any Velocity lever, it's also the most comfortable to use, which is why builders and homeowners consistently specify it.
- Is the Element available in Matt Black?
- Yes. The Matt Black (MBK) finish is available across all functions — passage, privacy and dummy. Matt Black is one of the most requested finishes for new builds and contemporary renovations, and in the Element profile it pairs directly with the Lockwood Paradigm 005 Matt Black deadbolt for a unified front-door hardware look.
- What is the difference between passage and privacy functions?
- A passage set turns freely on both sides with no locking function — suitable for living areas, hallways and connecting doors. A privacy set includes a push-button snib on the inside face, allowing the room to be locked from inside (bathrooms, ensuites, toilets). Neither includes a keyed cylinder.
- How does the Element differ from the Summit and Glide?
- The Summit L1 is a straight tapered lever; the Glide L4 has a smooth downward curve. The Element L3 uses a square return — the lever rises then turns at 90 degrees before the tip. This gives it a stronger geometric character compared to the other designs. It also has the largest finger clearance in the 63mm Velocity range at 47.5mm.
- Will the Element fit my existing 54mm door preparation?
- Yes. The 63mm Velocity rose fits both 50mm and 54mm diameter bore holes, which covers the full range of standard Australian door preparations. You can swap in an Element lever without any drilling or modification in most cases.
- Can I use the Element on fire-rated doors?
- The standard Velocity passage and privacy sets are not rated for fire doors. For fire-rated applications on Nexion Vision entrance locksets, Lockwood offers the NXVFRKIT fire-rated upgrade. Consult our team if you have a fire door requirement and we'll specify the correct product.
- How long will the finish last?
- Lockwood's 25-year mechanical warranty covers the mechanism. For finish durability, Satin Chrome and Matt Black are both wear-resistant for residential use. Avoid abrasive cleaning products — a damp cloth is all that's needed for routine cleaning.
The Lockwood Velocity Element L3 is available in-store at Lockmart Frankston, Mornington, Rosebud and Braeside, and online with Australia-wide shipping. Qualified locksmith installation available across the Mornington Peninsula and south-east Melbourne. Call 1300 730 539.
