Description

The Lockwood Velocity Hakea (28) draws its name from Australia's native hakea shrub — a plant known for its bold, defined form — and the lever lives up to its namesake. With a broader, more substantial profile than the straight-form L-series levers, the Hakea is the statement piece of the Velocity range: noticeable without being ostentatious, and distinctly Australian in its design inspiration.

Like the rest of the Lockwood Velocity® Series, the Hakea is designed in Australia for Australian residential doors, arrives pre-assembled on a 63mm round rose with concealed fixings, and carries Lockwood's 25-year mechanical warranty. It shares its lever profile with the Lockwood Nexion entrance lockset range, enabling a genuine whole-of-home specification.

Lever profile — Hakea 28

The Hakea has a wider, more barrel-like grip section than the L-series levers — a profile that feels more substantial in the hand and reads differently on a door face. It's a popular choice in homes where the other lever designs feel too minimal, and where the door hardware is intended to be a visible element of the interior rather than a background detail. The 70mm projection (the largest in the 63mm Velocity range) means there's generous clearance between lever and door face.

The Hakea name — Australian design identity

Lockwood named the Velocity levers after distinctly Australian references — the Hakea and Saltbush levers are the two in the range that draw on native Australian flora. This naming reflects the Velocity Series' identity as a range designed specifically for Australia, by Australians. The Hakea shrub's bold, sculptural seed pods inspired the lever's more substantial form — a nod to Australian natural design that most homeowners appreciate only once it's pointed out.

Whole-of-home compatibility

The Hakea 28 lever is available on Lockwood Nexion Classic and Nexion Vision entrance locksets, so the same profile can run from the front door entrance set through to every internal passage and privacy door. It coordinates with the Lockwood Paradigm 005 round deadbolt as part of a complete hardware suite.

Installation

The Hakea arrives pre-assembled on the 63mm rose with the Velocity Series' twist-and-tighten concealed fixing system. The rose fits 50mm and 54mm bore holes. Professional installation through Lockmart's qualified locksmiths is available across the Mornington Peninsula, Frankston, Braeside and surrounding suburbs. Call 1300 730 539 or ask at checkout.

Frequently asked questions

What makes the Hakea different from the L-series Velocity levers?
The Hakea (28) and Saltbush (34) are the two levers in the Velocity range with a broader, more substantial grip profile compared to the slimmer L1–L4 designs. The Hakea has the highest lever projection in the 63mm Velocity range at 70mm, which gives it a more generous clearance from the door face and a more prominent appearance on the door.
Why is the Hakea numbered 28 rather than L5?
Lockwood's lever numbering reflects the original product catalogue codes rather than a sequence within the Velocity range specifically. The L1–L4 levers are newer contemporary profiles; the 28 and 34 are established Lockwood lever profiles that were incorporated into the Velocity range for consistency across the Nexion and Palladium entrance lockset families.
Does the Hakea suit modern interiors?
Yes, particularly in Matt Black. The broader profile reads as bold and considered in contemporary interiors, especially where other hardware — tapware, cabinetry handles, light switches — has a similarly substantial form. In Satin Chrome it also suits transitional and coastal styles.
Can I match the Hakea on my front entrance door?
Yes. The Hakea 28 lever is available on Lockwood Nexion Classic and Nexion Vision entrance locksets, enabling a consistent whole-of-home specification from the front door through to all internal doors.
Is the Hakea available for bathroom doors?
Yes — order the privacy set. The privacy function includes a push-button snib on the inside face that locks the door from inside and can be released from outside in an emergency.
What is the Lockwood 25-year warranty?
Lockwood warrants the Velocity Series against mechanical defects for 25 years. This covers the lever action, latch mechanism and rose assembly. It is one of the most comprehensive mechanical warranties available on residential door hardware in Australia.
